The – oh so – hip and trendy Mexico City!
Bigger, more impressive, more beautiful than you would ever imagine. If you’re traveling to Mexico, you shouldn’t skip this city. Combine Barcelona, Berlin, New York, Sydney and Amsterdam and you get Mexico City. You won’t be able to see the whole city just within a few days or a week, but the (in our opinion) nicest areas to wander around and be stuck all night are oh-so-conveniently located all close together! Also, hot tip! Uber is your best friend here in Mexico. Moving from A to B can cost as little as $2.
We were in Mexico City for four days and tried to visit as many bars and restaurants as possible. Incase you haven’t already realised from our other blogs, our main interests consist of: eating, drinking, sleeping and repeating the cycle! So discovering new and awesome spots to fulfill these cravings, is something we love to do. Because of the endless options available in this great city, it was extremely difficult for us to research and decide on the best places to stuff our faces but we did the best we could!
Our favourite area was Roma Norte, a very hip and progressive neighbourhood. It’s known for being the epicentre of hipster subculture. This area is home to a lot of trendy restaurants and hip cocktail lounges, with a chilled and relaxing atmosphere. From Roma Norte, you can walk straight into another nice area called Condesa. Condesa has lots of beautiful streets, restaurants and bars which are worth a visit as well. Where Roma & Condesa have a lot of similarities, you can say that Condesa has a bit more fashionable and classy vibe. Going out in this area can be just having drinks on beautiful roof terraces or a real night out, depending what you’re looking for.
Below you find a list of our favorite spots in Roma Norte & Condesa:
WARNING: Following our recommendations may or may not result in some weight gain… but we promise it’ll be worth it!
Bar Felix
Chilled, relaxing, nice for some drinks and snacks during the week. They have very good food, excellent fries (very important of course) and also not too expensive.
Address: Álvaro Obregón 64, Roma Norte
Licoreria Limantour
The best cocktails we’ve ever had! Really worth to taste these drinks and have a look at the handsome bartenders while shaking. And: it’s one of the top 50 bars in Latin America!
Address: Av. Álvaro Obregón 106, Roma Norte
Traspatio
Another nice spot where you see yourself coming back a few times. In the weekends it’s a good place to get some drinks, but it’s also worth a visit for the food.
Address: Calle Córdoba 150 Bis Esq. Colima, Roma Norte
Mercado Roma
In Mexico City you can find a lot of indoor food markets and Mercado Roma is one of them. Take the elevator to the roof terrace to enter the Biergarten. They have lots of nice draught beers and delicious hotdogs (no… not the latino style like you were thinking. But there’s lots of that around too). With all the nice lights you’ll enjoy a really nice atmosphere.
Address: Calle Querétaro 225, Roma Norte
Galanga
If you’re craving Thai food, go to Galanga. They have delicious curries! This is a local spot, so you won’t find a lot of tourists here.
Address: Guanajuato 202, Roma Norte
Cabrera 7
Perfect place to fill your bellies if you’re looking for a nice restaurant and bar to have a beer, a cocktail, a snack or even a proper dinner. If you’re on a budget don’t stay too long, but it’s really worth a visit.
Address: Plaza Luis Cabrera 7, Roma Norte
El Palenquito
Good local spot to get some beers and (unusual) snacks. If you can handle it, try the ‘chapulines’. It’s very common to eat these grasshoppers in certain areas in Mexico.
Address: Av. Álvaro Obregón 39, Roma Norte
El Deposito
Looking to go home with a beer belly?! This is the perfect place! Lots of different kind of beers from all over the world are exposed in this charming beer shop and bar in Roma.
Address: Alvaro Obregon 21, Roma Norte
Departamento
Go dancing in – what looks like your – living room with a very nice vibe and good music. It will be hard to leave this domestic place!
Address: Avenida Álvaro Obregón 154, Roma Norte
Pata Negra
Go to Pata Negra to listen to some nice music. First live music and they’ll close the night with a DJ. If you’re lucky you’ll even catch some people dancing.
Address: Tamaulipas 30, 1er Piso, Condesa
Condesa DF
Condesa’s rooftop bar is located inside a hotel and offers a really nice view of Mexico City. They serve lots of different delicious cocktails, but you’ll a bit more than usual.
Address: Av Veracruz 102, Condesa
Not in Roma nor Condesa, but very close and worth a vistit as well:
Mercado Independencia
In the centre of Mexico city, close to Centro Historico, you’ll find this nice, industrial food market, with a variety of food and good cocktail bars.
Address: Avenida Independencia 40, Centro
Black Horse
This bar is nice to go to for a drink & little dance. You can watch sportgames, but this British pub also offers a nice social alternative atmosphere with live music and a variety of beers.
Address: Calle Mexicali 85, Hipodromo
Watch our video below. We tried to capture this beautiful city in just 37 seconds.
